Hitachi DS12DVF3 Review

Ok so here we have the Hitachi DS12DVF3, Hitachi are famed for making some of the very best cordless drills available anywhere in the world, features such as robust construction and external motor brushes are all Hitachi’s hallmarks.

So is the Hitachi DS12DVF3 another of Hitachi’s best cordless drills – lets find out, the DS12DVF3 is a 12 volt cordless drill so it is more is a heavy DIY type of power tool, the torque output of 230 inch pounds is reasonable for a 12 volt drill and should be enough for most users. You get two speeds 0 to 350 RPM for screw driving and 0 to 1100 RPM for drilling, again Hitachi has included a variable speed control for great control when drilling and driving. The controls are finger light and the drill is finely balanced.

The clutch of the Hitachi DS12DVF3 offers 22 positions – which is more than you will actually need, they give you a range of fine control settings for most jobs so the Hitachi DS12DVF3 can be used for anything from screwing light screws into soft wood to light masonry use.

In use the Hitachi DS12DVF3 is has a compact and ergonomic design which sits well in the hands and does not cause operator fatigue, it measures 7.5 inches in length and weighs in at only 3.5 pounds so it is a compact cordless drill which is well suited to it’s target market. The keyless chuck fitted is a 3/8 inch model and is suited for one handed operation, the bit holder which Hitachi have moulded into the case of the DS12DVF3 is also a useful feature for those of use who tend to lose the bits easily.

The batteries supplied with the drill are older Nicad models but in our test these proved to be more than adequate for their intended use, you also get a handy flashlight included in the package, this is a high quality light and is very powerful in use giving a nice illumination, you also get a seven piece set of bits to get you started which is a nice touch from Hitachi along with a sturdy travel case and 30 minute quick charger.
