Having looked at the new Makita BDF452HW we think this is one of the best cordless drills that Makita make, we have just got this drill in for testing and really liked it, so this review is hot off the presses so to speak. Here are our initial impressions of the Makita BDF452HW.

This is an incredibly light cordless drill – weighing in at an amazing 3.5 pounds, this is a baby of a cordless drill which packs a punch like a gorilla, rated at a full 18 volts of pure power this drill will never let you down when you need it the most, the batteries of this particular model are lithium ion for maximum power and good recharge cycles, they  are able to retain a charge when other cells have died, the recharge time is a miniscule 15 minutes and you are up and running again by using Makita’s brand cordless drill battery recharging technology.

The motor used in the Makita BDF452HW is a four pole model, these types of motors deliver greater torque than older 2 pole models, in fact the measured torque of the Makita BDF452HW is around 450 pounds – inch pounds that is, this is more than enough for most drilling tasks and is approaching the torque output of a corded drill. You get two speeds ranges with the Makita BDF452HW, these are 0 to 500 RPM and 0 to 1500 RPM, the drive train is all metal in construction, we prefer all metal drive trains because of their greater strength.

As we said above the Makita BDF452HW weighs in a only 3.5 pounds, this makes it one of the best cordless drills in it’s class, it is also a very compact design at only 8 inches long and well shaped to fit your hand, you also get a built in work light with the Makita BDF452HW, this nicely illuminates the work area and is yet another great feature of this cordless drill.

So to summarize, the Makita BDF452HW is a nicely blended power tool, it is able to drill easily into masonry and timber with ease and is ideal for either the professional contractor of the busy DIY type user, this drill ably demonstrated Makita’s desire to produce the very best cordless drills at all price points.
