This cordless drill from Makita is probably the best cordless drill in it’s class – that being the compact cordless drill class, if you are a lighter user of power tools then the Makita DF330DW is exactly the drill you need, it is one of the best cordless drills on the market for size and weight.
This is a two speed cordless drill powered by lithium ion cells for longer life and faster recharge times, we really like lithium battery packs and think that they are the future of cordless drill technology, weighing in at only 2 pounds this is a drill even a child could use – but don’t let them though!
You get two speeds which are enough for a lightweight cordless drill, 0 to 350 RPM and 0 to 1300 RPM, these are nice ranges, the 0 to 350 is ideal for screw driving for example. Not only is the Makita DF330DW a lightweight drill, it is also very compact – it is only 7 inches in length making it great to hang off your tool belt and is good if you need a drill for working at heights. The soft grip handle gives you a silky smooth feel and the drill is very compact to hold for an extended period of time.
As we say this is a 10,8 volt model, but the lithium cells really pack a punch and the Makita DF330DW will not disappoint in the power stakes – it eats Black and Deckers for breakfast, the charger supplied by Makita is able to fully charge the batteries in 50 minutes which is fast enough for most people – you get two packs anyway so this is a great time.
You also get a LED work light, this illuminates the work area nicely and is a useful feature, the chuck is a 3/8 model and is of course keyless in design, in operation the chuck was positive in action and gripped the drill bits with ease. If you are a woodworker then the Makita DF330DW is ideal, plenty of power and lightweight are just the features you need, all in all we liked this drill and think it is the best cordless drill in it’s class.
