The LXFD01CW is a brand new cordless drill from Makita and is in fast one of the very best cordless drills which Makita make, it is an 18volt model so it packs quite a punch, like the more modern drills on the market this one is powered by a set of lithium ion batteries for longer life and better discharge cycles compared to traditional nicad type batteries.
This particular drill packs 480 pounds of torque which is a heck of a lot, probably more than most people will need unless you want to drill into dense concrete, the drill offers two speeds, 0 to 400 RPM and 0 to 1500 RPM, these are nicely set apart and are a sound choice from Makita.
The two speed gearbox is all metal in construction which we prefer to see as all metal boxes tend to last longer than plastic ones.
Once again the Makita LXFD01CW features a built in work light which seem to in fashion at the moment – though this is a useful feature which we like, the quick charger included with the Makita LXFD01CW is truly quick – only 15minutes to juice up those lithium ion batteries – which is really quick, the charger tends to get warm in use but not overly so.
In our tests the Makita LXFD01CW did not disappoint, it was able to drill in to mild steel and brick with ease, it was also possible to drill 4 inch holes into timber using a circular saw cutter so it has lots of power.
What do you get – the Makita LXFD01CW itself along with two 18 volt batteries as well as the 15 minute fast charger and a sturdy carry case. We like this drill and think it is one of the best cordless drills that Makita make.
